I've been reading more and more about people cutting out added sugar completely, which seems like obvious advice when you think about it, but it changes your diet entirely. So many things have added sugar or one sort or another.
I also saw reports last week about NHS dentists over-treating, or rather treating people too frequently or o more…

I have yet to find in months of looking, an NHS dentist that will now drill & fill without my going private with them and stumping up £hundreds. They are simply not interested because there's no income incentive for them from the government.
The only offer I have is for quick extraction.
God help those on benefits trying to more…

There are good and bad dentists all over the country, the trouble is finding them, or finding the right people to recommend them.
The horror of extraction is unsurprisingly the dental topic I see blogged about the most. It really does make an impression on anyone who has to have one taken out. I know I'll never forget mine! more…

I know how you felt Ruby, I wonder how many get murdered each year.
Must be the worst job in the world that, the despised TW. They do a large rota round where I live, to avoid familiarity abuse as much as possible.
I wrote a song about them in my younger daze; the lyrics included...
" They've got no sole..."
BOOM BOOM! You more…

The last time I came out of a supermarket with my doddery old mum and found myself being ticketed, I was sorely tempted to trip her up and shout 'heart attack ! see what you did, you ...'
I think she would have gone along with it.
They let us off anyway. more…

Curious about everything - not just romantic stories, MStM. Pity I shan't hear the Ironing Board Saga though. You really shouldn't have wetted my appetite. Still, if some other tale is on the cards, I'm happy.
I hope you had a good day yesterday. more…

Many thanks GS, you are a gem.... and quite some curious cat for the romantic stories heh!
Wish I could spill the beans on the Mr & Mrs Ironing board saga, it's quite an ironic tale to tell - but, like them, I'm all for the quiet life these days.
I'll dredge out a lesser heartbreak story in its stead from somewhere sometime more…

Devious moi?
... can be, can be GS ! ;)
Perhaps the "tale of two ladies" ought to wait for a future post.... one of the ladies is a rather complex story - and still apparently blissfully married to her convenient fold-away domestic appliance

Hiya Yourself,
It's true I once was a bookworm with a voracious appetite. Maybe I will be again. Who knows. I'm certainly going to read London Fields, and maybe that will get me started seriously reading again. I've read nothing by Iain Banks, but have seen the BBC adaptation of The Crow Road and I really enjoyed that, so maybe I s more…

Hiya GS,
You are a bookworm aren't you! You must read London Fields, it's an absolute classic. Thanks for the plugs for the other authors, will look out for them.
I'm a big Iain( without the M )Banks fan, we've been exchanging correspondence on a (very) irregular basis for over 20 years now.

I rarely read fiction these days, don't know why really, I just stopped. I agree with you about Martin Amis, and I thought I had read London Fields, but for the life of me can't recall any of it, so maybe not. I've definitely read the first five novels and enjoyed them very much. I also love the fiction of David Lodge and have read everything up more…

How truly bizarre you should ask that, GS!
The same American co-authoress bought it as a spontaneous £1 pressie from the outdoor book market under Waterloo Bridge on the South Bank.

It is indeed, GS. It sprang to mind from the unconscious during the co-writing of a to-date unpublished novel entitled CATCH - a black comedy of debauchery and seafaring high jinx - in about 1992. It has the two levels of understanding; floordrobe (as opposed to wardrobe) and floored robes.

I've had the book for around a couple of decades. I'm thinking maybe I should read it. But until I do, I'll carry on reading your extracts from it here. Thanks for the insight into life in Smollett's time. What drew you to the book, may I ask? more…
